Are e-bikes a good thing?

It’s amazing what a bit of sun can do. My first pain free run in 3 months after my ankle shenanigans. Only 5 km and it was slow with many, dog-induced stoppages but not complaining.

Also managed a fun gravel loop around the Forest of Dean. This place is made for cycling fun. I am astonished at the number of e-bikes – I reckon we saw 50 other bikes. Only two were ‘proper’. Are we accidentally creating problems down the road with general decreasing fitness or are we encouraging more people to engage in an activity resulting in an overall net increase in population fitness?

If I had to guess I would say the latter. The existence of bikes is not a new thing and we have, as a populace become less fit. The people that would go out on a bike would do so anyway and probably wouldn’t buy an e-bikes. So those likely to use an e-bike are probably unlikely to engage in exercise without it.

Overall a good thing. But I dunno. Thoughts appreciated
