One of the best bits of my job is working with young people and helping them recover from injury and to achieve their sporting ambitions. I am very lucky to be involved with the local climbing squads (and others across the country) where I spend a little bit of time each year assessing them and discussing any concerns they might have. Often it is about a specific, previously unidentified weakness that correcting might improve their performance only fractionally but enough to get a podium place. Frequently it is about assuaging their concerns (and parents) about ongoing aches and pains and just occasionally I will pick something up that needs to be dealt with – as I have done this year.
Definitely makes it all worthwhile.
