How to run an ultra marathon Part 9 – mix it up

Treading the same route can be effective for comparing performance but if you want to run an ultra for the first time you will no doubt be training for some time.

This means you’ve got to stay motivated. Motivated enough to get out of bed at 5:30am, drive somewhere and run from cold. This messes with your “routine” so it needs to be worth it. Squatting behind trees is undignified but necessary with such an early start.

I’ve been getting the mileage regularly up to 20 miles so I thought I’d explore the local byways and pathways.

Today, Offa’s Dyke and Wye Valley Walk combination. Moonlight start and beautiful sunshine finish.

Doesn’t get better.
